My closet was overflowing and not very functional. We moved a dresser from our room into my husbands closet. He needed it more than me. It use to hold all my sweaters and sweatshirts. My closet is a narrow walk-in with 4’ walls on each side. I used the closet designer on the Better Homes & Gardens website. We did everything with just one 4’ by 8’ sheet of mdf. This was much cheaper than a closet organizer.
I can’t find my before picture so here is a photo of all the stuff from just one side of my closet. I had a pile of clothes and two hanging shoe organizers.
Below are the in progress photos. We removed a white wire shelf that you could hang clothes on. It left quite a few holes in the wall.
Here it is freshly painted with all the holes filled.
And of course here it is with my overabundance of clothes.
I love it now. My hubby built the shelves. I painted. It definitely was one of my worst paint jobs but you really can’t tell with the clothes in it. :)
I love hearing your feedback and enjoy reading your comments.

It looks so nice! Great job!
Great inspiration! I have a small closet, too :). You have done such a lovely transformation to make this closet do its job :). I really like how you removed some of the shelving so you could hang more clothing--great idea. We have a coat closet for guests in the entryway hall, so I moved our heavy winter coats and outerwear to that closet and it has given me much more room --yay!
Sindy:)
Looks great. I need to do this with a couple of my closets.
I wish my closet was that neat. It looks great and I will keep this in mind for when I get around to redoing my closet.
This is great!! I've got a closet makeover on my DIY list and I'm so glad I ran across your post and the mention of the BHG closet designer. I didn't know such a thing existed. Thanks for sharing!!
Very nice! I love the idea of the mdf shelving - very economical, and I think better looking, than the wire shelving units.
What a great job! Your closet looks so good and organized!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Great job! I love it when there's a job that you can do at home, no professionals needed, and it turns out great. Wonderful sense of accomplishment, isn't it?
Oooh! Awesome idea! I so need to do that to control our closet clutter. Great job!
Love an organized closet, and yours looks terrific!! Thanks for sharing :-)

Great job, I sooo badly need to do mine! I find I have so many shoes and no idea what to do with them! I feel inspired I may have to actually do it now. :)
Nice job.....it is so nice and organized......how nice! I may have to look into putting a column of narrow shelves to solve my overflowing sweaters and sweatshirts. Thanks for sharing!
Great addition. Nothing like having shelves of that width for sweaters. Worth the work! Jane F
Thanks for coming by and leaving the nice message about my bed crown.
Now, if only my closet looked like yours!!!
Good job.
Rhonda
It looks great. Isn't an organized closet like a breath of fresh air?
Great job! We put a three drawer dresser (really just a matching bathroom cabinet base) on either end in the master. All the guest room closets have the shelves like yours. Love them.
Thanks for dropping by Atticmag. Did you see the braided rug JaneF had in her post the next day? It was in a library like nook off a game room.
Off to see you kitchen!
